Campus Tragedy: Suspected Shooter Arrested After Deadly Shooting at Kennesaw State University

KENNESAW, Ga. – A tragic shooting at Kennesaw State University resulted in a student’s death on Campus Loop Road, as confirmed by university officials. The suspect in the shooting has been apprehended by the police, although the names of the victim and the assailant have not yet been released.

Eyewitnesses, such as student Robert Bowns, recounted the terrifying moment when gunfire erupted just feet away while they were studying on campus. Following the incident, an alert was issued at 4:07 p.m., instructing individuals on campus to take precautions by staying indoors, locking doors, and closing windows.

The shooting incident, which occurred near the Austin Resident Complex, led to the closure of Campus Loop Road for several hours as law enforcement authorities gathered evidence. It was not until 4:43 p.m. that KSU Emergency Management declared it safe for individuals to resume normal activities.

Tragically, the student succumbed to their injuries by 8:00 p.m., with the suspected shooter taken into police custody. This is not the first time the university has faced such a threat, as earlier in the year, a similar “KSU Alert” was issued due to an armed intruder on campus.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist with the ongoing investigation, providing support to law enforcement agencies as they seek to bring justice to the victim and their loved ones. The university community remains in shock as they come to terms with the devastating loss experienced on their campus.

As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, students, faculty, and staff at Kennesaw State University are left grappling with the reality of such violence occurring in their midst. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of campus safety measures and the need for ongoing vigilance in safeguarding educational environments against potential threats.
