Convicted Gang Member to Face Life Without Parole for Fatal Richmond House Party Shooting

Richmond, California – A man from Oakland has been convicted by the Contra Costa County district attorney’s office for his involvement in a shooting that killed three men and injured four others at a Richmond house party in 2021. Enrique Ramirez-Calmo, along with another gang member, opened fire at a Father’s Day party on June 20 in a tragic event fueled by mistaken identity and gang rivalry.

The victims of the shooting, all men ranging from 18 to 45 years old, were targeted at the party on Dunn Avenue near 20th Street. The party, advertised on Facebook as a “marimba” event, turned into a nightmare as gunfire erupted. Both Ramirez-Calmo and the teen shooter were arrested in March 2022 after being connected to the crime scene through ballistic evidence and video footage of their arrival at the party in a Nissan Altima.

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence, including a video taken by one of the victims during the shooting, proving Ramirez-Calmo’s involvement in the senseless massacre that claimed three lives. District Attorney Diana Becton expressed her dismay over the tragic event, calling it a “senseless massacre that shattered the lives of innocent families.”

Following the jury’s verdict, Ramirez-Calmo was convicted on three counts of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted murder, and other enhancements related to gang involvement. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 11 in Martinez, facing life without parole for his role in the fatal shooting that shook the community.

The case highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement and prosecutors in bringing justice to the victims and their families. The conviction of Ramirez-Calmo serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence and the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions. As the community grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy, closure may be found in the perpetrator being brought to justice.
