DORAL, Fla. – A deadly gunfight erupted early Saturday at Martini Bar in CityPlace Doral, leaving two individuals dead and seven others injured.
The incident began when a fight among patrons escalated at around 3:30 a.m., prompting a security guard to intervene. Unfortunately, the situation turned tragic when an unidentified man pulled out a firearm and fatally shot the security guard, as stated by Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta.
Following the initial shooting, two Doral police officers, who were present for security purposes, returned fire, resulting in one officer taking down the gunman. In the exchange, one of the officers sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh but managed to apply a tourniquet to himself, displaying the crucial training law enforcement receives in high-pressure situations, noted Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez.
In addition to the casualties, six bystanders sustained gunshot wounds, with four men and two women among the wounded. The injured officer has since been discharged from the hospital, while the six bystanders remain hospitalized, with two in critical condition, according to reports.
The circumstances surrounding the violent altercation are under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Miami-Dade Police. Authorities are working to ascertain the sequence of events that transpired and the individuals involved in the shootings.
