Fatal Shooting Suspect Charged with Murder in NYPD Officer’s Death

New York, NY – A tragic incident unfolded in Queens this week as Guy Rivera, 34, was charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller during a routine traffic stop in Far Rockaway. The shooting occurred when Diller and his partner approached Rivera and another individual, Lindy Jones, who were illegally parked at a bus stop.

Rivera, who was shot by Diller’s partner and remains hospitalized, is facing additional charges of intent to murder, attempted murder, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Jones, the alleged driver of the car, was charged separately with criminal possession of a loaded weapon and defacing a firearm serial number.

According to police reports, the officers instructed Rivera and Jones to exit the vehicle, leading to a confrontation where Rivera allegedly brandished a gun and shot Diller below his bulletproof vest. Jones, when questioned by authorities, claimed not to know Rivera and asserted that Rivera was a hitchhiker.

Officer Diller, a 31-year-old father from Massapequa Park with three years of service in the NYPD, tragically succumbed to his injuries at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. His wake is being held on Long Island, with former President Donald Trump expected to attend before Diller’s funeral on Saturday.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dangers that law enforcement officers face daily while serving and protecting the public. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the fatal shooting and ensure that justice is served for Officer Diller and his family.

The loss of Officer Jonathan Diller serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by those who dedicate their lives to upholding the law and safeguarding their communities. The NYPD and fellow officers are mourning the loss of a colleague and friend, as they come together to honor his memory and support his loved ones during this difficult time.
