Dover, Delaware – Authorities are currently investigating the tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old at the campus of Delaware State University early on Sunday morning. A reward is now being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest in the case. City of Dover Chief of Police Thomas Johnson, Jr. expressed his dismay at the unfortunate event, stating, “You never want to get the phone call as a public safety professional that a tragedy like this occurred especially at an educational institution.”
The victim, identified as Camay Mitchell De Silva of Wilmington, Delaware, was visiting someone on the campus at the time of the shooting. Investigations are ongoing to identify a suspect in her death, with authorities emphasizing that she was an innocent bystander with no involvement in any altercation that may have occurred prior to the shooting.
On the night of April 21, officers were alerted to a shooting near the Warren Franklin Residential Hall, where they found the victim with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save her, De Silva succumbed to her injuries at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus. It was later revealed that she was not a student at Delaware State University but was enrolled at Morgan State University in Baltimore.
