Man narrowly escapes death in random ax attack, suspect faces attempted murder charges

Tacoma, Washington – In a terrifying incident that took place late last month, a man in Pierce County narrowly escaped death after being viciously attacked with an ax. The assailant, identified as Serena Marcy, now faces charges of attempted murder for her alleged involvement in two separate assaults on March 29th.

Eyewitness Kisa Harris described the attack as brutal, recounting how Marcy struck the victim, Jeremy Gist, directly in the face near the 1100 block of South Highland Avenue in Tacoma. Gist, who was simply getting something from his car, found himself in a life-threatening situation as Marcy relentlessly swung the ax at him like a massive, serrated knife.

The attack left Gist with severe injuries, including shattered bones, a prominent facial indent, and fractures extending to the top of his skull. Despite the traumatic experience, Gist managed to call 911 during the assault. Understandably, he chose not to appear on camera due to the severity of his injuries.

Shortly after the first attack, Tacoma police responded to another distress call less than two hours later. This time, a stabbing that escalated into a carjacking on Ruston Way was reported. Marcy allegedly attacked an Uber driver, stabbing him in the neck and chest before fleeing with his vehicle. The injured driver was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.

Harris stressed that Marcy’s actions seemed to go beyond mere theft, suggesting that she had intentions of causing harm. The ordeal has had a profound impact on Gist’s life, emotionally affecting Harris, who identified him as her fiancĂ©. She expressed distress over the mounting medical bills and the looming threat of eviction that now hang over their shared existence.

For those interested in supporting Jeremy Gist’s recovery, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up for donations. The community is rallying behind Gist as he navigates the long road to healing and justice.
