Shooting Charges: Two Men Indicted in Connection with Fatal Shooting of 15-Year-Old Girl

Harrison Township, Ohio – Authorities have brought charges against two more individuals in connection with the tragic shooting death of a 15-year-old girl in Harrison Township last year. Darrell Bostic and Baretta Byrdsong, both 26 and from Dayton, were indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

Byrdsong faces charges of endangering children, involuntary manslaughter, and reckless homicide, while Bostic is charged with two counts of murder, among other offenses. These charges stem from the shooting incident that resulted in the death of Heaven Washington during a “rolling shootout” in November. Another individual, Tommy Moreland, was previously indicted in connection with Washington’s untimely death.

Washington, who was under temporary custody of Montgomery County Children’s Services and staying in a group home at the time, was fatally shot while being driven by Byrdsong to withdraw money for an upcoming field trip. The prosecutor’s office revealed that Byrdsong worked at the group home where Washington resided and was the intended target of the shooting, which was part of an ongoing feud between Byrdsong and Moreland.

The tragic incident has drawn attention to the safety protocols in place for children in group homes and the individuals responsible for their care. Prosecutor Matt Heck, Jr. expressed deep concern over the senseless conflict that led to the loss of an innocent life and emphasized the need for accountability.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Bostic and Byrdsong, with arraignment scheduled for May 7. Investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting, shedding light on the need for heightened vigilance in safeguarding vulnerable individuals and preventing such tragic events in the future.
