Mother stabs 11-year-old Georgia girl to death then props the body up in a recliner in grotesque scene

SANDY SPRINGS, GA – An 11-year-old girl was found dead in her home Tuesday, prompting her mother’s arrest and raising concern within the community as investigators revealed disturbing details surrounding the child’s final moments.

Genesis Grimes was discovered deceased in a recliner inside the Laurel Grove condominiums after police responded to a welfare check. The officers arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call from a concerned family member who said the child’s mother, Shannen Grimes, had reached out with alarming statements and appeared to have harmed herself.

When officers arrived, Genesis was found sitting upright in a recliner, covered with a blanket or towel, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother, Shannen Grimes, 42, was found nearby on the couch suffering from what authorities described as a self-inflicted wrist wound. Emergency responders treated her on site before she was transported to a hospital.

Investigators later revealed Genesis had suffered multiple puncture wounds to her neck and shoulder area. During their search of the home, officers found blood evidence in several rooms, as well as cleaning supplies and blood-soaked items. Authorities believe efforts were made to clean the scene and arrange Genesis’ body in the chair.

Witnesses and police noted that Grimes’ sister provided access to the condominium after contacting authorities about the mother’s distressing messages. Law enforcement reports detailed a scene with blood on various surfaces and a box containing blood-stained clothing and bedding, with one garment showing damage consistent with Genesis’ fatal injuries.

While in the ambulance en route to the hospital, Grimes allegedly admitted to police that she had stabbed her own daughter. Officers also recovered knives from the kitchen area, appearing to be stained with blood, which are being processed as potential evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Genesis, described by neighbors as a quiet and kindhearted young girl, was the only child living in the residence. Details about prior concerns or protective interventions have not been disclosed by officials. The motive leading up to the incident remains unclear as authorities continue to piece together the chain of events.

Shannen Grimes now faces charges including two counts of murder, cruelty to children, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, and tampering with evidence. She remains in custody at the Fulton County Jail, where bond has not been set.

The case has left the Sandy Springs community shaken, with neighbors and school officials expressing shock and sadness as they await additional details. Police have not indicated whether further charges or developments are expected as the investigation continues.
