Sentenced: Woman Convicted of Brutal Murder in London’s Edmonton

London, England – A woman in London has been found guilty of a brutal and violent attack that resulted in the death of a 58-year-old woman. Deka Omar, 24, was convicted of murdering Susan Ioannou after a re-trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

The victim, Ms. Ioannou, was found dead at a residential property in Edmonton, north London, on February 21, 2022. Investigations revealed that Omar had taken advantage of Ms. Ioannou’s kind nature to fund her own drug addiction.

The attack on Ms. Ioannou involved strangulation, stamping, and heavy blows to her face. Omar even stole Ms. Ioannou’s phone before leaving the scene.

Following the discovery of the body, Omar asked individuals to check on Ms. Ioannou, claiming that something may have happened to her. After reviewing CCTV footage and witness reports, Omar was arrested by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of murder on February 22, leading to her eventual charges about a year later.

Detective Inspector Jim Barry described Susan as kind and generous, noting that she supported those around her despite having little herself. He expressed gratitude to Susan’s friends who assisted in the investigation and ensured that justice was served.

The verdict in this case is expected to bring some comfort to those who knew Susan, particularly her family. The sentencing for Deka Omar is set to take place at Snaresbrook Crown Court on April 5.

Through their continued efforts, the Metropolitan Police aim to seek justice for victims and their families, making the city a safer place for all its residents. The impact of violence resulting in murder is devastating, emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
