SARASOTA, Fla. – A shooting in Sarasota early Saturday morning resulted in one fatality and four individuals being hospitalized, authorities reported. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident, which unfolded at the Tallywood Centre Plaza on 17th Street around 3:30 a.m. Responding deputies found a large gathering with multiple victims in the parking lot.
Among the victims, 24-year-old Tommie L. Battie IV was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the SCSO. The four additional victims were transported to local hospitals in Manatee and Sarasota counties for treatment. To facilitate the investigation, one eastbound lane of 17th Street between Tallywood Drive and Beneva Road was temporarily closed off.
Authorities believe the shooting to be an isolated event and continue to actively pursue leads in their criminal investigation.
