The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident occurred in the 3400 block of 17th Street around 3:30 a.m.
Evan Keats, the Director of Community Affairs in Sarasota, confirmed that Tommie Battie, Brian’s brother, tragically lost his life in the shooting. While the names of the other victims have not been disclosed due to Florida’s Marsy’s Law statute, it was revealed that four additional individuals were hospitalized following the incident. The conditions of these victims remain unknown at this time.

Battie’s achievements as the Bulls’ sixth 1,000-yard rusher in 2022 further underscored his impact on the collegiate football scene before entering the NCAA transfer portal in January 2023.
