LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A man of Indian descent has been taken into custody following a shooting incident that left four people dead, including his wife and three relatives, in a suburban Atlanta home. Vijay Kumar, 51, allegedly opened fire after a domestic dispute early Friday morning, prompting a frantic call to 911 from one of his children.
The violence erupted at around 2:30 a.m. at a residence on Brook Ivy Court in Lawrenceville, where Kumar was staying with family members, including his wife, 43-year-old Meemu Dogra. Reports indicate that three other victims, identified as Gourav Cumar, 33; Nidhi Chander, 37; and Harish Chander, 38, suffered fatal injuries from gunshots.
When law enforcement responded to the scene, they discovered three children hiding in a closet. Fortunately, the youngsters, aged 12, 10, and 7, emerged uninjured. Kumar was found nearby and subsequently arrested without incident.
The Gwinnett County Police Department has charged Kumar with several serious offenses, ranging from four counts of aggravated assault to four counts of felony and malice murder. Additionally, he faces charges related to child cruelty, as investigators continue to piece together details regarding the motive behind the shooting.
Authorities have yet to disclose additional information about Kumar, and the investigation remains ongoing.
