Herndon, Virginia – An 18-year-old suspect surrendered to authorities in connection with the tragic shooting of a 14-year-old Westfield High School student. The suspect, Ismael Cruz-Delcid, was taken into custody by the Fairfax County Police Department following the incident outside a hotel in McNair.

During a press conference, law enforcement officials revealed that Cruz-Delcid is facing charges of second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and felony distribution of cocaine. The shooting, which took place after a verbal altercation between the teens, resulted in the death of one victim and another narrowly escaping injury.

Police Chief Kevin Davis expressed concern over the prevalence of gun-related violence in minor disputes, highlighting the need for effective strategies to address the issue at a national level. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and any potential connections between the individuals involved.

The suspect, a recent graduate from Mountain View Alternative High School, has refrained from providing a statement to law enforcement regarding the events leading up to the shooting.

In response to the tragic incident, Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Michelle Reid announced that counseling support is being offered to students at Westfield and Herndon High School, as well as other schools within the district. The school community is coming together to cope with the loss and provide assistance to those affected by the violence.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist in bringing justice to the victims and their families. The community is mourning the loss of the young victim and grappling with the impact of gun violence on local neighborhoods.
