Los Angeles, California – A veteran Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy tragically passed away after battling severe burns sustained in a fire at one of the department’s mobile shooting ranges. Alfredo “Freddy” Flores, aged 51, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Sylmar. The incident occurred last October in Castaic when the tractor-trailer range he was in caught fire unexpectedly.
Flores, a dedicated officer with 22 years of service, worked at various locations within the department, including the North County Correctional Facility and Altadena Station. At the time of the accident, he was part of the Court Services West Bureau. The cause of the fire, which began at the trailer parked next to the men’s jail at Pitchess Detention Center, is still under investigation.
