Transphobic Teenagers Sentenced for Brutal Attack on Trans Girl in London Car Park

London, UK – Four teenagers have been sentenced after orchestrating a violent attack, including a stabbing, on an 18-year-old transgender girl in a car park in north-west London. The attack, described as vicious by Judge Philip Katz KC, involved grievous bodily harm with intent and was motivated by transphobia and a distorted sense of revenge.

The incident unfolded when the victim was lured to the location under false pretences of an invitation to a disco at a rollerskating rink. Upon arrival, she was subjected to a brutal beating and stabbing in a premeditated assault. Only the intervention of passersby prevented the attack from turning fatal.

According to reports, the group also recorded and shared footage of the victim engaging in a sexual act with one of the attackers, further adding to her humiliation. Despite previous attacks due to her gender identity, the victim initially denied being transgender when confronted.

Summer Betts-Ramsey, 20, from Barnet, played a prominent role in the attack and boasted about stabbing the victim on Snapchat. She received the longest sentence of eight and a half years at a youth detention center, with the judge labeling her as a dangerous offender motivated by hatred and a distorted desire for revenge. Bradley Harris, Camron Osei, and Shiloh Hindes, all 18 years old, were each sentenced to three years in youth detention for their involvement in the attack.

In a statement to the court, the victim expressed feeling like she is living a life sentence, having endured hostility in the past due to her identity. The Metropolitan Police reported that Detective Inspector Nicola Hannant, who led the investigation, described the assault as horrendous and violent, driven by transphobia. Hannant commended the victim’s courage throughout the case and hoped that the teenagers’ sentences would help her move forward with her life.

Overall, the incident sheds light on the ongoing issue of violence and discrimination faced by transgender individuals and highlights the importance of addressing and combating transphobia in society. The sentencing of the four teenagers serves as a reminder of the consequences of such hateful actions and the need for greater support and protection for marginalized communities.
