Sonora, California – A Sonora man was taken into custody after a heated argument regarding his girlfriend led to a violent confrontation. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the 15200 block of Mountain Lilly Road following a report of a physical altercation involving an ax. The victim identified 36-year-old Chad Allan Koenig as the perpetrator, alleging that the altercation initiated with a wrench. Koenig, who had reportedly been in an on-and-off relationship with the victim’s stepdaughter, demanded that the victim bring the woman to him. When the victim refused, Koenig returned with a ¾-inch wrench.
In response, the victim armed themselves with a garden hoe for protection as Koenig swapped the wrench for an ax. Brandishing the ax over his shoulder, Koenig struck the victim’s vehicle, causing significant damage before fleeing the scene. Another witness corroborated the victim’s account of the incident. Deputies apprehended Koenig shortly thereafter, arresting him on charges of felony vandalism and misdemeanor brandishing a non-firearm weapon.
