Assailant Who Brutally Attacked Disc Golfer in Shelby Park Faces Charges in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man accused of a violent assault on a disc golfer at Shelby Park has returned to Nashville to face charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

The incident occurred in November when the victim, who was playing disc golf, was confronted by the suspect, Vanell Coble. An argument ensued between the two men, leading Coble to brandish a knife. In an act of self-defense, the victim retrieved a sledgehammer from his vehicle, instructing Coble to back off. However, Coble proceeded to physically attack the victim, causing severe injuries including two black eyes, a broken nose, a broken orbital socket, a broken blood vessel in one eye, and a possible tooth injury.

Thanks to the victim’s identification, Coble was apprehended by authorities in Franklin, Tennessee, and subsequently transferred to Nashville for legal proceedings. Currently, Coble is being held in custody by Nashville authorities, with a $10,000 bond set for his release.
