CHELMSFORD, ENGLAND – A 71-year-old man from Chelmsford, England, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for attempting to murder his son-in-law in a horrific incident that took place in front of the victim’s three-year-old daughter. Chacko Abraham Thenakarayil was found guilty of attempted murder after attacking his son-in-law with a meat cleaver at their home on May 6 last year.
The victim was sitting at the dining table with his young daughter when Thenakarayil approached him from behind and struck him in the head with the cleaver, causing serious injuries. The son-in-law managed to defend himself and escape from the house, seeking help from neighbors. Upon arriving at the scene, the neighbors found Thenakarayil armed with a third knife, indicating his intentions to harm the victim further.
Following a two-week trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, a jury convicted Thenakarayil of attempted murder on June 26. During the sentencing, Judge Morgan emphasized the severity of the offense, describing it as a “spontaneous attempt to kill for wholly selfish reasons.”
Detective Sergeant Louis Moore highlighted the lasting impact of the assault on the victim, stating that the incident will stay with him for the rest of his life.
