Charged Man Accused in Teen’s 2021 Killing Also Connected to Chiefs Parade Shooting

Kansas City, Missouri – A man who was previously accused in the death of a teenager in 2021 is now facing charges in connection with the shooting incident at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally last month.

Terry Young, 20, has been charged with four felony counts and is currently held on a $1 million bond. Prosecutors did not pursue charges against him in relation to the teenager’s death in 2021.

The victim’s mother, Rashira Lewis, recalled the harrowing moments following the shooting at the Super Bowl rally, expressing her deep concern for her son’s well-being.

According to Lewis, if Young had been prosecuted earlier, the tragic events on February 14 could have been prevented.

The victim, Derrez Green, was described as a bright and talented young man who brought joy to everyone around him. His life was cut short when a gunshot from the back seat fatally wounded him on October 9, 2021.

After Green’s passing, Young was identified as the individual in possession of the gun that caused the fatal shot. He is now facing charges for second-degree murder in connection to the Super Bowl rally shooting.

Despite evidence implicating Young in the shooting incident, prosecutors declined to press charges initially, citing concerns about the functionality of the gun.

Lewis expressed her frustration with the justice system’s decision not to pursue charges against Young for her son’s death. She emphasized the pain and suffering caused by the loss of her son.

Young, who admitted mishandling the gun that led to Green’s death, is scheduled for a bond review hearing on April 1.

Lewis remains determined to seek justice for her son and hopes that Young will be held accountable for his actions.
