Killing in Northern Birmingham: Investigation Launched After Domestic Dispute Ends in Tragedy

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Authorities are investigating a fatal domestic incident that occurred Saturday morning, claiming the life of a 30-year-old man in northern Birmingham. The victim has been identified as Anson Quandarius Henderson.

Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance shortly before 10:15 a.m. at a residence on 32nd Street North in the Collegeville neighborhood. According to Sergeant LaQuitta Wade, while en route, police noticed a vehicle leaving the scene at a high speed.

The officers managed to stop the vehicle and detained its occupant, allowing others to continue to the home. Upon arrival, they found Henderson unresponsive on the front porch. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate that an altercation unfolded between Henderson and the mother of his children. Following the dispute, she left the premises, only for another vehicle to arrive shortly thereafter and open fire on Henderson. Wade noted that the suspect attempted to flee the area but was apprehended shortly after.

The shooter has not been identified as the mother of Henderson’s children, and authorities are withholding further details about their connection to those involved in the domestic conflict. Wade emphasized that the rapid response of law enforcement played a crucial role in securing the suspect’s arrest.

This incident marks Birmingham’s 70th homicide in 2023, amid increasing concerns about gun violence in the city. Notably, out of these cases, one victim was fatally shot in 2024 but succumbed to injuries only in the following year. Collectively, Jefferson County has reported 102 homicides so far this year.

As the investigation continues, local residents are urged to come forward with any information that could assist authorities in understanding the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
