Shooting in Phoenix Leaves One Dead and Another Injured Following Tense Officer Response to Active Shooter Report

Phoenix, Arizona—A tragic incident occurred Monday evening, resulting in one person dead and another hospitalized following an altercation that escalated into an officer-involved shooting. Police were initially dispatched to a residence on Lower Buckeye Road and 75th Avenue in response to reports of an active shooter situation.

Upon arrival, officers learned that gunfire had erupted inside the home. According to police spokesperson Jen Zak, one officer approached the residence and fired through an open door in response to the perceived threat. Inside, officers discovered two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

In addition, a third man was detained at the location, suffering from injuries unrelated to gunfire. Thankfully, no law enforcement personnel sustained injuries during the incident.

Investigators are still piecing together the events as they unfolded. Early reports indicate that a man had driven to the residence and began shooting. Following this, he allegedly entered the home, where a confrontation ensued just before police arrived.

Jarvis Alejandro Rosas Gonzalez, who identified himself as the stepson of the man shot by police, claimed his stepfather had called 911 seeking assistance. “I’m upset. I’m mad. I’m furious,” Gonzalez expressed to reporters. He questioned how someone asking for help could end up being shot.

Witnesses provided corroborating accounts of Gonzalez’s claims, asserting that the individual shot by police was indeed the one who sought help. One neighbor recounted hearing multiple gunshots before witnessing police commands followed by additional shots.

The deceased has not yet been publicly identified, leaving family and friends in mourning. The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division is conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting incident.

This event marks the third police-involved shooting in the Phoenix area this year, contributing to a worrying trend of violence involving law enforcement in Arizona, which has seen a total of eight such incidents in 2026. Authorities are urging the public to remain calm as they continue to gather information and assess the situation.
