Stepfather Stabbed to Death in Rancho Bernardo Home: 25-Year-Old Arrested

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A 25-year-old man was taken into custody on Sunday in Rancho Bernardo, California, on suspicion of fatally stabbing his 61-year-old stepfather, according to the San Diego Police Department on Monday.

The suspect, Pablo Johnson, was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail on Monday on suspicion of first-degree murder, SDPD Lt. Steve Shebloski said. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed pending family notifications.

The incident was reported by a neighbor at 5:52 p.m. on Sunday, who witnessed the stabbing at a residence in the 12000 block of Caminito Campana in Rancho Bernardo. Responding officers arriving at the scene detained Johnson, who was suspected of being the assailant.

Upon investigation, the victim was found in a rear bedroom, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Despite life-saving efforts by the officers and paramedics, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to investigate the tragic incident, which appeared to be a case of family violence. It was revealed that the victim and the suspect lived together at the residence along with other family members. The fatal stabbing followed an apparent argument between the two on the evening of the incident.

Johnson remains in custody at San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Central Division Felony Court. Anyone with information about the stabbing has been urged to contact the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
