Eaglescliffe, United Kingdom – A man from Eaglescliffe, United Kingdom, has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for subjecting a woman to two years of violent abuse. Glen Hutchinson, 29, pleaded guilty to charges including intentional strangulation, assault causing actual bodily harm, and perverting the course of justice.
Hutchinson’s violent attacks on the woman, which occurred even while she was pregnant, involved punching her multiple times in the head, once while holding a baby resulting in the infant’s head hitting a doorframe. Despite attempts to dissuade the victim from cooperating with authorities, Hutchinson was eventually charged with perverting the course of justice.
Detective Constable Gemma Illidge expressed dismay at Hutchinson’s lack of remorse throughout the investigation. She commended the victim’s bravery in coming forward and supporting the prosecution against him, acknowledging the physical and emotional toll the abuse had on her.
Illidge hopes that the sentencing provides the victim with some semblance of closure and helps her move forward from the trauma she endured. The court had no choice but to remand Hutchinson due to his continuous breaches of bail, highlighting the seriousness of his actions.
The victim, heavily pregnant during some of the assaults, bore extensive bruising as a result of Hutchinson’s violent behavior. Despite the challenges she faced, she demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience in seeking justice and bringing her abuser to account. The community stands in solidarity with her in the aftermath of this harrowing ordeal.
