Arrest Made in NIA Investigation of London High Commission Attack

New Delhi, India – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant breakthrough by apprehending an individual connected to the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London back in March 2023. Inderpal Singh Gaba, a resident of Hounslow in the United Kingdom, was taken into custody in Delhi for his alleged involvement in unlawful activities during the protests that occurred on March 22, 2023.

According to NIA’s investigations, the incidents in London on March 19 and March 22, 2023, were part of a larger conspiracy to carry out vicious attacks on Indian missions and officials. These attacks were believed to be in response to actions taken by the Punjab police against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh on March 18, 2023.

In the previous year, NIA had conducted searches at various locations linked to individuals suspected of being involved in the attack on the High Commission in London on March 19. Approximately 50 people were accused of trespassing, disrespecting India’s national flag, damaging public property, and causing injuries to High Commission officials during the assault.

The orchestrated attack was led by Gurcharan Singh of the Dal Khalsa, Avtar Singh Khanda of the Khalistan Liberation Force, Jasvir Singh, and their associates, comprising both Indian and foreign nationals. Avtar Singh Khanda, unfortunately, passed away in City Hospital, Birmingham, on June 15, 2023.

In a proactive measure, a team from NIA was dispatched to the U.K. in May of the previous year to collect evidence. An initiative called “crowdsourcing of information” was undertaken to identify and gather information about U.K.-based entities and individuals allegedly involved in the conspiracy.

These latest developments shed light on the ongoing efforts to uncover the truth behind the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London, demonstrating NIA’s commitment to ensuring justice and holding accountable those responsible for such unlawful activities.
