BIRMINGHAM, AL – A Fairfield man faces charges of capital murder and attempted murder following a deadly shooting in 2024 that stemmed from a dispute on the social audio app Clubhouse. The Jefferson County grand jury indicted 32-year-old Roddregus Williams-Johnson on March 7, with the indictments recently made public.
The incident occurred on August 10, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Brandon Lee and serious injuries to his girlfriend, Keandra Hendrix. Police reported that the altercation between Williams-Johnson and Hendrix escalated at an apartment in Birmingham’s Collegeville public housing community.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Lee deceased in the kitchen, while Hendrix was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, two children in the residence, ages 7 and 5, were unharmed.
The dispute, originating on the Clubhouse app, led to a confrontation at the apartment, with witnesses on the app urging for authorities to be contacted as tensions escalated. Gunshots were heard, leading to Lee’s tragic death and Hendrix’s severe injuries.
Prosecuting the case is Jefferson County Deputy District Attorney Charissa Henrich, with Williams-Johnson being represented by attorney Roderick Walls. Birmingham homicide Detective Ronald Davenport testified that the footage showed Williams-Johnson brandishing a gun and fatally shooting Lee before fleeing the scene.
Despite claims of self-defense by Williams-Johnson, investigators found evidence linking him to the crime. Surveillance cameras captured the altercation, corroborating witness statements and providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.
