Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey — A former aide to a congressman faces serious charges after allegedly orchestrating a fake attack on herself, raising questions about her motives and mental state. Natalie Greene, 26, has been charged with conspiracy and making false statements to law enforcement related to the staged incident that occurred in July.
The incident began when Greene’s unnamed associate reported to authorities that they had been attacked by three men while walking in a nature preserve. According to the report, the attackers identified Greene by name and referenced her prior employment with U.S. Representative Jeff Van Drew, noted in court documents as “Federal Official 1.”
When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they found Greene bound with zip ties in a wooded area. Her clothing had been manipulated in a way suggesting a violent encounter, and she bore numerous superficial cuts across her body. Disturbingly, phrases such as “TRUMP WHORE” were found inscribed on her skin.
Despite Greene’s dramatic claims—asserting that one of her attackers was armed—the investigation quickly unraveled her story. FBI agents discovered evidence indicating that Greene had not been victimized as she suggested. Surveillance and transactional records revealed she had engaged the services of a body modification artist weeks before the alleged attack, paying $500 for a series of precise cuts, which she discussed the design for in advance.
Further investigations turned up black zip ties in Greene’s vehicle that closely matched those used to bind her during the staged incident. In addition, the inquiry revealed that her co-conspirator had searched for “zip ties near me” just days before the purported assault.
Greene was charged with one count of conspiracy to convey false statements and one count of making false statements to law enforcement. If convicted of both charges, she could face a maximum of 10 years in prison.
During her first court appearance, Greene was released on a $200,000 unsecured bond. Legal experts note that the outcome of this case could hinge on evidence from the FBI’s investigation and the detailed account provided by Greene and her accomplice.
As this case unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of fabricating violent incidents, not only for the individual involved but for the community and law enforcement resources strained by false reports.
