Rampaging Ex-Boyfriend Jailed for Four Years for Violent Attack

Yarm, England – A man from Seamer in North Yorkshire, England, has been sentenced to four years in prison for a violent attack on his ex-girlfriend’s new partner. Jordan Kelly, 23, went on a rampage armed with a knife at a block of flats in Yarm, where his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend resided, according to Teesside Crown Court.

Kelly, who had been in a relationship with the woman for about seven years before it ended in July 2023, was described in court as being in a “screaming rage” during the attack. He made multiple death threats, physically assaulted the man, and engaged in other violent behaviors. Prosecutor Kevin Wardlaw highlighted the manipulative and abusive nature of Kelly’s relationship with his ex-girlfriend, noting that Kelly would often threaten her with a knife, creating a climate of fear.

The violent incident occurred on September 8, when Kelly confronted his ex-girlfriend’s new partner at his flat. During the confrontation, Kelly threatened to kill the couple, held a knife against the man’s throat, and physically assaulted him. The male victim shared that he feared for his life during the attack and sustained injuries, including temporary blindness in one eye.

Further testimony in court revealed Kelly’s obsession with his ex-girlfriend and a pattern of controlling behavior that left her living in fear. Both victims received restraining orders against Kelly, who pleaded guilty to charges including assault causing bodily harm, possession of a bladed article, and assaulting an emergency worker.

Recorder Melly KC, the presiding judge, characterized the attack as “prolonged and persistent,” emphasizing the danger posed by the weapon used. The severity of the incident prompted the judge to hand down a four-year prison sentence to Kelly and issue indefinite restraining orders to protect the victims from any future harm.
