Mandeville, Louisiana — A domestic altercation in a residential area resulted in the death of a man and left a woman seriously injured early Monday morning, as reported by local law enforcement. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to calls regarding gunfire in the Greenleaves subdivision shortly before 3 a.m.
Upon arrival, deputies found 49-year-old Shawn Quinn deceased in a yard on East Richland Drive. A woman was also discovered at the scene, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Authorities later reported that she had managed to escape through a window after Quinn had attacked her inside their residence.
During her flight from danger, the woman sought refuge in neighboring homes while attempting to evade her assailant. Her desperate attempt for help drew the attention of a nearby resident who heard the altercation and witnessed the violent attack.
Witnesses reported that the neighbor stepped outside after hearing sounds of distress to find Quinn actively assaulting the woman with a knife. Despite commands to halt, the suspect reportedly persisted in his violent actions. In a bid to stop the assault, the neighbor fired a weapon, striking Quinn, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was promptly taken to a local hospital, where medical personnel classified her injuries as serious but not life-threatening. Authorities have not disclosed her identity, but they are closely monitoring her condition.
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith characterized the incident as “violent and extremely dangerous,” emphasizing that the neighbor’s intervention likely prevented further harm to the woman. As the investigation continues, detectives are examining evidence and gathering testimonies from witnesses present during the incident.
No charges have been filed against the neighbor at this time, as authorities evaluate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation remains active, focusing on the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy and the actions taken in its aftermath.
